A new controller for MotoGP games is trying to bridge the gap between a toy and a serious sim rig. The device, which mounts to a desk or a proper racing setup, looks like a set of actual motorcycle handlebars. It promises a more immersive experience for fans of two-wheeled racing, but the real challenge is making it work well enough that players actually want to use it.
The unit includes working throttle and brake levers, plus a clutch. The grips are shaped to match what you would find on a real superbike. The key feature is the force feedback system, which is designed to simulate the weight shift and front-end chatter you feel when pushing a bike to the limit. Early impressions suggest it is not just a gimmick. The feedback is strong and communicates what the front tire is doing, which is crucial for catching a slide or braking deep into a corner.
Of course, there are compromises. You still need to use buttons for shifting on some models, though a separate shifter pedal is planned. Also, the unit is not cheap, and it takes up a fair amount of space. But for someone who has tried to play MotoGP with a standard gamepad and felt disconnected, this could be the missing piece. It is not trying to replace a full motion rig, but it does offer a focused way to feel the bike. The main question is whether the software support will hold up across different titles. If it does, this could be a solid addition to a sim racer's setup, not just a novelty for a few laps.
