No more (universal) Daily Deals on Steam... is that good?

No more (universal) Daily Deals on Steam... is that good?

Steam is making a major change to how it promotes discounted games on its storefront. The platform will retire its universal Daily Deals, Midweek Deals, and Weekend Deals in favor of a dynamic, personalized recommendation system. The shift is expected to launch in early 2027, and Valve has already paused scheduling new curated placements for Daily Deals, though existing deals will still run their course.

Under the current system, every Steam user sees the same featured discounts. Landing a Daily Deal slot typically produces one large revenue spike as the promoted game becomes visible across the entire platform. The new approach will instead show different deals to different players based on their interests and play history.

Valve says testing showed it could surface ten times more games per day in that section, leading to meaningful increases in store page visits, wishlists, and cart additions. The company also noted that its goal is to let developers focus on making great games and compelling deals rather than spending time trying to convince someone at Valve to feature their products.

Reactions from developers have been mostly positive. Some point out that personalized recommendations can support a wider diversity of games, especially niche titles that rarely landed a universal spotlight. Others see it as a win for players who will see discounts relevant to their tastes instead of generic deep cuts.

There are still open questions about how publisher events and third-party sales will fit into the new system. For now, the change signals a broader move toward algorithmic discovery across the store.
