Toys for Bob, the studio behind the beloved Spyro Reignited Trilogy, has confirmed it is developing the first entirely new Spyro the Dragon game in nearly two decades. Titled "Spyro: A Realm Beyond," the project marks a major return for the purple dragon and is slated for release next year. In a surprise move, the game will launch directly on Xbox Game Pass on day one, making it available to subscribers immediately.
The announcement ends years of speculation about the franchise's future. While the Reignited Trilogy was a critical and commercial success, it was a remaster of the original PlayStation classics. This new entry is built from the ground up, featuring an original storyline, new worlds, and updated gameplay mechanics. Toys for Bob has emphasized that the game will retain the series' signature charm, collectathon style, and humor while introducing modern platforming elements.
Details on the plot remain scarce, but early concept art suggests a focus on exploring forgotten realms and facing a new antagonist threatening the dragon kingdoms. The studio has promised a "generous" campaign length and extensive post-launch content. For Game Pass subscribers, the day-one release represents a significant addition to the service's library, especially for fans of family-friendly action-adventure titles. A specific release date has not yet been announced, but the game is expected to launch in the holiday season of next year.
