The Most Likely Return To ‘Destiny’ Is A ‘Destiny 1’ Remake

With Destiny 2 effectively winding down its major content cycles, the conversation around the franchise's future has shifted. While some hoped for a Destiny 3, the most practical path forward appears to be a full remake of the original Destiny. The logic is simple: Sony, now the owner of Bungie, needs a proven hit that can be rebuilt from the ground up without the technical baggage of a decade-old engine.

A Destiny 1 remake would solve several problems at once. It would allow Bungie to re-release the game that started it all, but with modern mechanics, improved loot systems, and a unified engine that matches the feel of Destiny 2's later years. The original game's best content, like the Vault of Glass raid, the Taken King expansion, and the haunting beauty of the Dreadnaught, could be polished and presented to a new audience. For longtime fans, it would be a chance to experience that world again without the clunky progression and vault space limits of 2014.

The financial incentive is also clear. A remake costs less than a full sequel and carries far less risk. Sony has seen success with remakes of other franchises, and Destiny's unique blend of first-person shooting and MMO-style loot is still a rare combination on the market. Whether this actually happens remains to be seen, but for a franchise that has struggled to find its footing, going back to the beginning might be the smartest move left.
