BitSummit Day 3 Report: Golfing with rubber ducks, the joy of Mr Footy and Namco’s Suika Game rival

KYOTO - The final day of BitSummit, Kyoto's premier indie game festival, delivered a quirky mix of absurdity, nostalgia, and competitive fruit-smashing. As the doors closed on the three-day event, attendees were left with memories of rubber ducks on the fairway, a surprisingly heartfelt soccer game starring a single foot, and a new puzzle contender from an unexpected classic arcade name.

One of the most talked-about booths was a golf game where players swapped traditional balls for bright yellow rubber ducks. The physics were predictably wobbly, sending the squeaky waterfowl bouncing off trees and into sand traps. It was less about a low score and more about the chaotic joy of watching a duck splash into a water hazard.

Meanwhile, the indie title "Mr Footy" stole the show for its simple, absurd premise. Players control a lone, disembodied foot that kicks a soccer ball through increasingly bizarre levels. The controls are tight, but the charm lies in the animations and the sheer silliness of a foot trying to score a goal while avoiding traffic cones and angry cats. It is a reminder that sometimes the best ideas are the most ridiculous.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was Namco's entry into the fruit-matching arena, directly challenging the viral hit Suika Game. While Suika relies on dropping fruit into a box, Namco's title adds a layer of classic arcade timing. Players must launch fruit at a moving target, aiming to create combos before the screen fills up. It feels like a natural evolution of the genre, blending the satisfying physics of merging fruit with the precision of a shooting gallery. The booth had a constant line, proving that even a simple concept can feel fresh with the right execution.

BitSummit once again proved that the indie scene is thriving on creativity, not just graphics or budgets. From ducks on the green to a foot on the pitch, the festival ended on a high note, leaving developers and fans already looking forward to next year.
