The Best Books, Movies, Video Games, and Podcasts to Check Out After Watching ‘Cape Fear’

Apple TV's new version of "Cape Fear" is a brutal, unpredictable ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you have already finished the series and are craving more stories about stalkers, revenge, and psychological tension, there is a solid list of material to dive into.

For movies, the obvious starting point is the 1991 Martin Scorsese version starring Robert De Niro. It is a masterclass in building dread. For something a bit different, try "The Vanishing" (the original 1988 Dutch film, not the American remake). It explores the quiet horror of a predator who seems completely ordinary. "Prisoners" with Hugh Jackman is also a strong choice, focusing on a desperate father and the moral lines he crosses.

In the world of video games, "The Last of Us Part II" captures the same cycle of violence and obsession. The game forces you to walk in the shoes of characters driven by revenge, and it does not let you look away. "Alan Wake 2" is another good pick, blending psychological horror with a small-town mystery where reality keeps shifting. For a more classic feel, "Condemned: Criminal Origins" puts you in the role of a detective hunting a serial killer in dark, grimy environments.

Book lovers should pick up "The Collector" by John Fowles. It is a chilling first-person account of a man who kidnaps a woman, and it digs deep into the mind of a stalker. "You" by Caroline Kepnes is a modern thriller that makes you sympathize with a charming but dangerous narrator. For a classic, "The Talented Mr. Ripley" by Patricia Highsmith follows a man who will do anything to steal someone else's life.

For podcasts, "Criminal" often covers real-life cases of obsession and stalking with a calm, eerie tone. "The Bright Sessions" is a fictional podcast about a therapist who treats people with superhuman abilities, but many episodes deal with control and toxic relationships. "Someone Knows Something" is a true crime series that investigates cold cases, often revealing how predators hide in plain sight.

Each of these picks shares the same core tension as "Cape Fear": the fear of someone who knows your secrets and will not stop until they break you.
