Not every console can be a hit. These five systems failed miserably—but decades later, they’re still part of gaming history in ways no one expected. The world of video games has seen numerous consoles come and go, with some fading into obscurity. Among them, the Atari Jaguar stands out as a bold attempt to compete with the likes of PlayStation and Sega, yet it struggled to find an audience and was quickly overshadowed.
Similarly, the Sega Dreamcast, despite its innovative features and strong library, was unable to recover from its predecessor's reputation and faced tough competition when the PlayStation 2 launched. The Virtual Boy from Nintendo, with its unique 3D technology, was plagued by poor marketing and health concerns, leading to its swift demise.
Other notable failures include the Neo Geo, which was too expensive for the average consumer, and the Philips CD-i, which suffered from a lack of quality titles. Each of these consoles, while unsuccessful in their time, contributed to the evolution of gaming and left a lasting impact on the industry.
