The White House website has added a pair of arcade-style games that have quickly stirred debate online. One game lets players build a border wall, while the other involves deporting migrants. The games appear designed to promote the administration's immigration policies, but critics say they trivialize serious human issues.
The wall-building game shares a visual and mechanical resemblance to Tetris, with blocks stacking up to form a barrier. That similarity did not go unnoticed. The company behind Tetris issued a statement distancing itself from the White House project, saying it did not authorize or endorse the use of its style or name. The company added that it finds the association with border enforcement troubling and urged the White House to remove the game.
The deportation game, meanwhile, tasks players with catching and removing figures from a screen. Advocacy groups have called the games offensive and in poor taste, arguing that they reduce real-world suffering to a cartoonish challenge. Supporters of the administration, however, see the games as a lighthearted way to engage younger audiences with policy goals.
The White House has not commented on the backlash. The games remain live on the site as of this writing. Whether they stay up or come down, the episode highlights how even simple digital entertainment can become a flashpoint in a divided political climate.
