Super Mario Odyssey has made its way to Windows and Linux computers by way of Power Moon Recomp, an unofficial project that runs the 2017 Nintendo Switch title as ordinary PC software. Zarathustra Dev published the port on GitLab, and players who own a legitimate copy of the original 1.0.0 version can download the required files and complete a full playthrough without launching an emulator.
Power Moon Recomp operates by translating the game's original AArch64 machine code into C code first. From there, the code is compiled into a native PC executable that runs directly on the computer. During play, the project handles the game's logic through this recompiled structure rather than relying on emulation layers, which is the approach most commonly associated with running console titles on desktop hardware.
The release gives owners of the base game a way to experience the sandbox platformer on PC with native performance. Because the project requires files from a legitimate copy of version 1.0.0, it does not distribute the game itself. The port is available now for those who want to try the recompilation route on Windows or Linux.
