NBA 2K27 review: Baseketball video game series continues to improve with latest edition

NBA 2K27 arrives at a strange time for sports gaming. Football fans are glued to College Football 27 and Madden NFL 27, so basketball has to work a little harder for attention. But this latest edition makes a strong case that it deserves it. The series has been on an upward trend for a few years now, and this installment continues that climb without any major missteps.

The biggest improvement is on the court. Player movement feels more natural, with less of the robotic sliding that plagued older versions. The new stamina system forces you to think about pace, so you cannot just sprint up and down the floor all game. Passing lanes are tighter, and the AI on defense actually rotates and helps in ways that make sense. It is not a simulation of real basketball, but it is the closest the series has come to feeling like a real game.

The MyCareer mode got a refresh too. The story is less cringe-worthy than past years, and you can actually get through the intro and into meaningful games faster. The dialogue is still a bit stiff in places, but the grind feels more rewarding. City navigation is still a bit of a chore, but you can fast travel to key spots now, which saves a lot of time.

Visually, the game looks sharp. Player faces are more detailed, and the arenas feel alive with better crowd reactions. The commentary is still repetitive after a few dozen games, but that is a long-standing issue across all sports titles.

If you are a basketball fan, NBA 2K27 is worth your time. It does not reinvent the wheel, but it polishes the ride enough to make it the best version of the game in years.
