Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the team behind the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series, has lifted the curtain on its next project, Stranger Than Heaven. During a recent presentation, the studio revealed key cast members and new story details for the upcoming title, which is set to launch this winter.
The presentation confirmed that Stranger Than Heaven will feature a fresh cast of characters, with several actors from previous Ryu Ga Gotoku games returning in new roles. The story is described as a standalone narrative, separate from the mainline Like a Dragon universe, though it retains the studio's signature blend of dramatic crime fiction and offbeat humor.
Set in a fictional Japanese city, the plot follows a group of outsiders drawn into a conflict involving a mysterious organization and a hidden artifact. The game's tone is said to be darker than recent entries, with a focus on betrayal and moral ambiguity. Combat will return to a real-time brawler style, a departure from the turn-based system used in recent Like a Dragon games.
Stranger Than Heaven will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, giving subscribers immediate access at launch. The game is also planned for PlayStation and PC platforms. A specific release date has not been announced, but the winter window suggests a launch between December and March.
